During the 34th Ordinary Session of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, from 8th to 19 September 2014, three newly elected Judges were sworn-in at the Court’s seat in Arusha Tanzania.
The new members of the Court were elected at the 25th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council and appointed by the 23rd Assembly of Heads of State of the African Union in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, June 2014. The newly elected members of the Court are Hon. Justice Rafaa Ben Achour (Tunisia), Hon. Lady Justice Solomy Balungi Bossa (Uganda) and Hon. Justice Angelo Vasco Matusse (Mozambique). They were elected for a six-year term. The new judges replaced Justice Sophia A. B. Akuffo (Ghana), the former President of the Court; Justice Bernard M. Ngoepe (South Africa), the former Vice President and Justice Kimelabalou (Togo).
