Matheiu Ngudjolo Chui is currently living life as a free man. Twelve years to the day that war crimes and crimes against humanity were allegedly perpetrated in the village of Bogoro, in the Ituri district of the DRC, the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) is set to deliver its highly anticipated judgment. The decision will be given on Tuesday 24th February 2015 at 10:00 am (The Hague local time).
On 18th December 2012, Trial Chamber II of the ICC acquitted Mr. Chui of the charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity and was released from custody after four years in ICC detention. The Prosecutor immediately appealed for Chui’s detention pending appeal against the verdict. The Appeals Chamber upheld the Trial Chamber’s decision to release him. Will the Appeals Division uphold the Trial Chamber’s verdict acquitting Chui of all charges?
