New Bureau at the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights

During the 34th Ordinary Session of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights in Arusha, Tanzania, from 8-19th September 2014, the Court elected a new Bureau.

The Bureau was elected for a period of two years after the terms in office of former Bureau members ended on the 8th of September 2014. The newly elected Bureau is composed of Honourable Justice Augustino S. L. Ramadhani (Tanzania), President of the Court and Honourable Lady Justice Elsie N. Thompson (Nigeria), Vice President. The new Bureau replaced Hon. Lady Justice Sophia A. B. Akuffo (Ghana), former President of the Court and Hon. Justice Bernard M. Ngoepe (South Africa), former Vice President, who were not eligible for re-appointment as both have served the statutory limit of two terms required by the Protocol Establishing the Court.
