The official spokesperson for Libya’s Attorney General, Taha Naser Bara, has said that Saif al-Islam Qaddafi and Abdullah al-Senussi will be put on trial in Zintan, Libya within a month’s time [February 2013].
Mr. Taha Naser Bara
The trial was originally scheduled to start in September 2012. Mr. Bara stated the reason for the delay in their trial was the continued questioning of Abdulah al-Senussi, which had not been completed yet. Mr. Bara felt that al-Senussi was privy to information that would have relevance to the Saif al-Islam Qaddafi trial. The spokesperson also affirmed that Libya was not obliged to hand him over to the International Criminal Court and that he will be put on trial in Libya, where he has been held since 2011.
Mr. Abdullah al-Senus
Mr. Saif al-Islam Qaddafi
The trial according to Taha Naser Bara will be held in Zintan as Zintan has now fulfilled all International Criminal Court (ICC) requirements necessary for the proceedings of the trial.
