Joan Kagezi, Lead Prosecutor of the International Crimes Division of the High Court of Uganda
On April 1, at the International Legal Capital, The Hague, Africa Legal Aid (AFLA) convened a meeting entitled Informal Reception on Kampala Amendments on the Crime of Aggression: Has Africa Lost its Voice? The purpose was to Promote ratification of the Kampala Amendments on the Crime of Aggression. The meeting sadly coincided with the tragic death of Joan Kagezi, Lead Prosecutor of the International Crimes Division of the High Court of Uganda. Kagezi was prosecuting some of the high profile international crimes cases, including terrorism, in Uganda. She was shot dead on her way from work. It is believed she was assassinated due to her work in bringing perpetrators to justice. An Attack on Justice!
