Al Mahdi Case: Reparations Order to be Held on August 17, 2017

On 21st July 2017, the International Criminal Court (ICC) announced the scheduling of a public hearing in the case of The Prosecutor v. Ahmad Al Faqi Al Mahdi.
The hearing will be held on 17 August 2017, at 10.00am (The Hague local time). The Court will deliver its reparations order in the present case. The Trust Fund for Victims has been invited to attend the hearing.
After pleading guilty, Mr. Al Faqi was unanimously found guilty by Trial Chamber VIII of war crimes on 27 September 2016. The Trial Chamber considered beyond reasonable doubt that he is a co-perpetrator in the attacks against religious and historic buildings that occurred in Timbuktu, Mali on June and July 2012. He was sentenced to nine years imprisonment, the time that he spent in detention since 26 September 2015 will be deducted from the sentence.
