Although not a Women specific organization, AFLA has had a bias for Women’s rights since its inception not least because Women play a leadership role within the organization. The fact that gender inequality and marginalization of women still continues to affect laws, policies, practices and domestic relations worldwide, initiated AFLA’s Gender Justice Campaign in 2007.

The Gender Justice Campaign addresses undertreated areas of gender justice and expand the list of offenses that constitute gender crimes. Through this Campaign and its Gender Network Forum, AFLA cooperates with women advocates and networks throughout Africa and elsewhere. Gender perspectives are incorporated in all of AFLA’s activities.

Through an Interactive Gender Justice Website, AFLA is engaging women’s networks and broader publics in dialogue on the evolving regime of Gender Justice emphasizing the African perspective.
